WDM & DCI Transport Solutions

When a fiber route runs out of spare strands, wavelength division multiplexing is the way to grow without laying new fiber. Sate Optics builds WDM transport links from components we supply every day — DWDM and CWDM transceivers, passive MUX/DEMUX units and OADMs — sized from a few wavelengths on a campus link to 40 channels of 10G on a metro route.

What a Sate WDM link consists of

DWDM transceivers — 10G DWDM SFP+/XFP and 1G DWDM SFP modules on the 100GHz C-band grid, with reaches up to 80km at 10G and 120km at 1G, including tunable 10G models that cover every channel with one part number.

DWDM MUX/DEMUX — passive units from 4 to 40 channels, plus single-fiber models that carry bidirectional services on one strand.

CWDM MUX/DEMUX — up to 18 channels at 20nm spacing for shorter, cost-sensitive links.

OADM — add/drop modules that serve intermediate sites along a route or ring.

CWDM systems offer up to 18 channels per pair for shorter links. Higher-rate designs, including 100G DWDM, are engineered per project — talk to us about your route.

Typical topologies

Point-to-point DCI — a MUX/DEMUX pair joins two sites; the standard build for data center interconnect and campus backbone links.

Ring and bus with OADM — intermediate sites add and drop only their own wavelengths while the rest pass through.

Single-fiber working — paired wavelengths carry bidirectional traffic on one strand for leased or fiber-scarce routes.

How far does a passive link go?

Passive WDM links need no power and no configuration, but the MUX/DEMUX insertion loss (2.4–6.0dB per unit depending on channel count) comes out of the same optical budget as the fiber itself. With our 80km-rated 10G DWDM optics, typical passive spans run from 40km up to 80km depending on channel count and fiber condition. We verify the link budget of every project before quoting — if your route needs amplification, we will tell you so up front rather than sell you a link that will not close.

Tell us four things and we will size the link

1. Route distance (km) and fiber type, if known
2. One fiber pair, or a single fiber?
3. How many services, and at what rate (1G / 10G / 100G)?
4. Any intermediate sites to serve along the way?

Every transceiver is compatibility-tested before shipment and coded for the major switch brands; WDM systems are covered by a 3-year warranty with lifetime maintenance, and standard lead time is 3 to 7 days. Contact us to start sizing your link.
